Personally I don't use the tone controls. I have played around with EQ and crossfade settings in Roon and HQPlayer, but it's quite a rabbit-hole! One day I will get around to doing some room analysis in REW and pump the data into Roon for custom EQ... at least, that's the plan
BTW, not sure how you're using the Bluesound unit, but it's my understanding that if you want full MQA output to an MQA-enabled DAC, you have to keep the tone controls set to 'off' and the audio output levels to 'fixed' (https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us ... aying-MQA-). Not important for everyone, but good to know if it might impact your audio chain.
As for Spotify, I've never bothered to connect the app to BluOS. If your kids use iPhones or other apple devices around, they should be able to connect to the Bluesound over Airplay. That's what my partner does, and we've found that to be much more reliable than bluetooth around the house. Plus it's easy to use—just select the Bluesound speaker as an audio output in whatever app you're using and you're off to the races. Beyond bluetooth & airplay, I don't know much about baked-in support for Spotify. I have found Bluesound support to be pretty helpful, though... if you're having issues maybe it's worth putting in a ticket.
